Artist Residency

The aim is to stimulate creativity through interaction with the local environment and to foster relations between participants and the local community.

We work in cooperation with the local schools and artists giving our artists the opportunity to breath in the spectacular view and let Icelandic nature be an inspiration for their art. With the open fjord at your front step, big stunning mountains, and the charm of a small fishing village.

Artak350 Residency

Artak350 Residency is a place for artistic research, art production, meetings, workshops, art courses and exhibitions, an opportunity to meet strangers and make friends. We host two artists that apply together as a DUO in residency. 

 Duration of residency

The duration of this residency program is one month, maximum two months.

Technical information 

This residency is for a DUO two visual artists from all around the world who want to be inspired by Icelandic nature and culture, work on their Artistic journey in research with in the arts and develop their projects.  Either in collaboration or individually. 

Accommodation

We offer artists DUO (two artists) in residence the possibility to live in the studio: two rooms as a living and  studio space which is provided with wifi, work desks, shelves and two single beds.  

We  accommodate  two artists at a time, in a private apartment with a live in studio space. Kitchen with cooking equipment fridge   & bathroom with WC and Shower.
Basic equipment is also available in the studio, however artists are responsible for bringing their own materials as there is no shop with art supplies in the area. It’s possible to ship your art supplies via post-mail before arriving.

House hall items, like toilet paper, soap, and what you need in the kitchen, it’s all provided by the artists, and if you run out of some things, kindly replace with new items for the next artists. At your arrival, you should have everything you need.  Remember to leave the place in the same condition or better than you found it.   At your departure, you need to have cleaned everything and wash the sheet and towels as well, you can hung them up to dry in the washing room.

Fees paid by the Artists:

One month: 1800.-euros (for two artists)

Included is:

The studio space and living area: 68m2
Access to a washing machine, bed linens and towels
Electricity, heating and water. WIFI.
Final Event (presentation and/or exhibition at the studio) (Optional>Weekend exhibition in our Gallery in Reykjavik)
Publicity on the Web.
Basic tools

Note: Once your application has been approved, your place will be secured upon receipt of full payment. Travel cost, transport, visa, daily living expenses, house hall item’s and medical insurance  are not included.

Unfortunately, we don’t offer any grants but we offer on requests a  formally invitation letter. And we encourage all our applicants to seek grants elsewhere. 

Expectations towards the artist

During the stay in residency, the artist DUO are expected to be active working on their projects. Give a presentation and/or exhibit their work at the studio or the visitor center.  OPTIONAL: In the end of  stay the Artists can exhibit their art works, over a long weekend, Thursday-Sunday in our Gallery in Reykjavik. Artists need to be present during the opening hours.(Accommodation in Reykjavik is no included)

Application information:
Artist DUO- two Artists applying together, either working as a team or working individually on their own recerts based Art projects.

In order to submit your application, fill in the form online and please send an email to artak350res@gmail.com.

Include the following information in ONE PDF document for Each, or one if the project is collaborative.

– Both Artists name – months preferred.
– Motivation letter (including a project/concept, description, 250-words max.).
– Examples of your work (max. 12 photos).
– A copy of your CV. 

Selection process

Residents will be selected by the Artak350 Residency committee, based on their work, commitment to their practice and ability to interact positively with the community at large. All applications will be answered as soon as possible. If accepted, you have one week to confirm your participation and 14 days  to pay a deposit of 800 EUR to guarantee your place.

The remaining  payment of 1000.euros, needs to be transferred four months prior to your stay. Please send us an e-mail after your transfer has been made.

If the final payment is not received in time, the Artist Duo gives up the right to stay in the Residency.

The deposit is NOT refundable in any case.
